The Lawrence Journal World, “KU Medical Center cites major achievements, funding challenges in strategic plan update,” March 23, 2016. | KC Rising co-chair, Doug Girod, M.D., highlighted the expansion of the KU School of Medicine-Wichita, the opening of the KU School of Medicine-Salina and the new Health Education Building on the main campus during the university’s strategic plan update in March. The new Health and Education Building will “significantly enhance our ability for inter-professional education going forward,” said Girod.

The Kansas City Star, “Sprint executive Sandra Price joins Great Plains board,” May 13, 2016. | Sprint’s executive vice president of human resources and KC Rising Human Capital Work Group co-chair, Sandra Price, was recently named to the Great Plains Energy board of directors. The selection “won praise from the Central Exchange Win|Win campaign to increase gender diversity on corporate boards and executive offices.”

Startland News, “Digital Sandbox expands to Independence, Mo.,” July 14, 2016. | Business incubator Digital Sandbox partnered with the City of Independence and the Independence Economic Development Council to expand into the Independence area. KC Rising Steering Committee member and Independence Mayor Eileen Weir commented on the organization’s ability to help Independence entrepreneurs grow and create jobs in the city.

KCUR, “Is Kansas City Supporting Its Entrepreneurs with Enough Money?,” July 21, 2016. | Darcy Howe, co-chair of the KC Rising Innovation & Entrepreneurship Work Group, joined area entrepreneurs on KCUR to discuss funding in the region. Darcy is managing director of KC Rise Fund, which matches Kansas City investors with venture capital firms. The fund helps tackle the need for capital to fund entrepreneurship in the region.

thinkingBIGGER Business, “Animal Magnetism: How KC Attracts Animal Health Companies to the Region,” August 2016. | Kansas City’s agricultural past has long made the region a leader in animal health. President and CEO of Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Dr. Albrecht Kissel, recently commented on the many animal health companies that have set up shop in the Kansas City region. Kissel added, “Every addition of that kind increases the region’s importance and adds to the diversity of animal health companies and related jobs in the region.” Kissel sits on the KC Rising Steering Committee.
