  • The Kansas City Business Journal, KC sets life sciences goal for the next decade,” October 1, 2015. The Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute released its “Path to 2025” report, a 10-year plan to position the KC region as the nexus of human and animal health. The report has informed many discussions of the KC Rising Globally Competitive Sectors Work Group and Steering Committee over the last year.
  • The Kansas City Star, “Kansas City is in first group for national STEM initiative,” October 21, 2015. KC Rising Steering Committee member and Superintendent of Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools, Cynthia Lane, attended a White House workshop in November after Kansas City was chosen as one of 27 cities for the workshop as part of a national STEM Ecosystems Initiative.
  • The Kansas City Business Journal, “KC bigwigs launch Internet of Things community to spur innovation,” October 29, 2015. KC Rising Steering Committee member and Mayor of the City of Olathe, Michael Copeland, shared remarks at an event kicking off the Olathe-based Internet of Things community, called TechrIoT-KC. This initiative is geared toward making the area a “global hub for innovation” and fostering Kansas City’s Internet of Things economy.
  • The Kansas City Business Journal, “Guest column: Innovation, entrepreneurship hold KC’s future,” November 6, 2015. Co-chair of the KC Rising Innovation and Entrepreneurship Work Group, CEO of FarmLink, and managing director and co-founder of Open Air Equity Partners, Ron LeMay, discusses the need to grow businesses at a rate competitive with our peers. He also mentions that thanks to efforts like KC Rising, our region is already communicating and collaborating at a higher level.
  • The Kansas City Business Journal, “Apparel firm will create 200 jobs, leases 473,000 square feet in hot Olathe submarket,” December 3, 2015. KC Rising Steering Committee member and Mayor of the City of Olathe, Michael Copeland, commented on S&S Activewear leasing space in Olathe. He noted that the announcement, “adds to what has been our best year ever in terms of economic development and reaffirms that our community is a wonderful place to do business.”
  • The Kansas City Star and The Kansas City Business Journal, “Independence, Mo., part of Bloomberg initiative,” and “Independence gets a hand in using, sharing data,” December 10, 2015. KC Rising Steering Committee member and Mayor of the City of Independence, Eileen Weir, commented on the City of Independence being selected to participate in What Works Cities, a program that will help the city improve its use of data to more fully address problems and to be more transparent with citizens.
